Congratulations to Saksham Saksena who was chosen as the recipient of the Horizon Award

Germantown, Tennessee-- May 27, 2021--
Saksham Saksena has been chosen as the recipient of the Horizon Award from SACAC (Southern Association for College Admission Counseling). As part of this award, he was able to choose an educator who has helped him to achieve his great success to receive a $1000 award to be put toward professional development with SACAC. Saksham chose Ms. Schmitt, Houston High’s College and Career Counselor, and shared the following words:

“Ms. Schmitt has helped me tremendously through my college application process. As the first person from my family to go to college in US, I have had tons of questions and have asked many to Ms. Schmitt.  Despite my seemingly endless emails, Ms. Schmitt was never annoyed and always replied quickly and thoughtfully. For that and all her advice and guidance, I am forever thankful. Her dedication to the success of my peers and I make her the ideal candidate for this award, and I could not think of anyone more deserving."

SACAC is an organization that exists to support professionals such as Ms. Schmitt in their exceptional work. They have plentiful professional development throughout the year that she can pay with the $1000 award. Some of the programs include the SACAC Annual Conference that will take place in Orlando in 2022; Summer Seminar, a yearly professional development program specifically for school counselors; or the Sweet Tea Tour, a counselor college tour that takes place each summer.

Congratulations to Saksham’s hard work over his high school years as well as Ms. Schmitt for her outstanding representation and assistance to students on a daily basis.
