Germantown, Tennessee—May 3, 2021—The Ned McWherter Scholars Program awards high school seniors, during their last semester in high school, who are Tennessee residents displaying exceptional academic rigor. They must earn at least a 3.5 unweighted cumulative GPA, a minimum composite score of 29 on the ACT (or equivalent to that of SAT), and leadership in extracurricular activities during their high school career.
This year, approximately 1,760 seniors from the class of 2021 had applied, but only 112 students were selected for the scholarship. These students had an average GPA of 4.0 and average test score of 34 composite on the ACT.
Upon acceptance, Ned McWherter Scholars receive $6,000 per academic years which may be renewed three times for a total of four years.
