GMSD Alumni Invited to Inspire Students with Career Journeys

September 2024--Houston High recently welcomed alumnus Owen Hardin for a Career Chat on welding, offering students an inspiring glimpse into his career journey. GMSD also celebrated Justice Mary Wagner, a former Mustang, who was recently sworn in as a Tennessee Supreme Court Justice and honored her former teachers during the ceremony. Alumni with unique career paths are encouraged to participate in Career Chats to inspire current students.

GMSD Celebrates Freedom Week: Engaging Students in Civic Learning

September 2024--GMSD is celebrating Freedom Week by engaging students in lessons that explore American democracy, the U.S. Constitution, and individual freedoms. The week includes interactive activities like debates and discussions to help students understand the importance of civic responsibility and the sacrifices made to secure these rights. Follow along on GMSD’s social media channels to see how classrooms bring American history to life.

GMSD Advocates for Special Education Funding During Visit from State Officials

September 2024--GMSD leaders, alongside Lakeland representatives, hosted state officials, including Rep. Mark White and John DeBerry, for a tour of the district’s special education preschool program. During the visit, Superintendent Jason Manuel and School Board Member Brian Curry raised concerns about the lack of state funding for preschool students with disabilities under the new funding formula. GMSD is actively advocating for equitable support for these vulnerable students with representatives from the governor’s office.

GMSD Ambassadors Gear Up for Fall Debut

September 2024-- The GMSD Ambassadors, a group of student representatives, are gearing up for their fall debut at the Leadership Germantown Alumni meeting and Germantown Neighborhood Summit on September 24.

May 2024 - Houston High School welcomed GMSD 7th graders to campus to show them all of the pathways that they can pursue as and HHS Mustang!
