Germantown Municipal School District Welcomes Marvis Davis as New District Athletic Director

With a strong background in education and athletic direction, Marvis Davis brings a wealth of experience to his new leadership role. Davis earned his Master of Education degree with a major in Education from the University of LaVerne, LaVerne, CA, in 2005. Prior to that, he completed his Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Movement and Sports Science/Exercise Physiology from the same university in 2002.

Notably, during his tenure at Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, TN, Davis served as the Associate Athletic Director and Head Varsity Basketball Coach, leading the team to eight district championships and five regional championships over nine seasons. Moreover, 14 of his students went on to play division one athletics, and the team secured two state championships and five final four appearances in the state tournament.

Beyond basketball, Davis played a pivotal role in the growth and development of Lausanne Collegiate School's athletic program. He guided prospective student-athletes towards NCAA compliance and facilitated the establishment of new team sports, including lacrosse, baseball, and football. Davis's passion for promoting sports and nurturing young talent extended beyond the school, as he organized and hosted high-profile basketball camps and tournaments, such as the Mike Conley Basketball Camp and the Penny Hardaway Hoopfest.

Davis's impressive achievements also extended to his time at Germantown High School, where he served as Physical Education Teacher, Head Varsity Basketball Coach, and Athletic Director. During his tenure, the basketball team experienced multiple twenty-plus win seasons, secured district championships, and earned several Coach of the Year awards.

In his new role as Athletic Director at GMSD, Davis aims to elevate the district's athletic program further. "I am looking forward to branding Germantown's athletic department and building new pathways for communications between players, coaches, and their parents," said Davis enthusiastically.

Davis shared his excitement, saying, “What truly fires me up is the abundance of untapped potential in your athletic program. The well known support from the community and the unmistakable pride that permeates Germantown - it's a concoction that has the potential to create pure magic on the field”.

Superintendent Jason Manuel expressed his excitement about Davis's appointment, stating, "We are thrilled to have Marvis Davis join our team at GMSD. His remarkable achievements and dedication to student-athletes' growth align perfectly with our district's vision for excellence in academics and athletics. With Mr. Davis at the helm we are confident that our programs will reach new heights.”

As a multi-talented athlete himself, Davis played football, basketball, and track at the college level, setting him apart with a unique perspective on sports. Additionally, his love of athletics led him to meet his wife, ShaMira Davis, who also shares a background in sports as a fellow athlete and currently serves as the principal of Houston Middle School. Together, they have two teenage sons, Tre and Celley, who are both avid athletes as well. They are also excited to join the Mustangs next year.
