Germantown Municipal School District Welcomes Austyn Scruggs as the New Assistant Principal at Houston High School

With a robust 14-year career in education, Ms. Scruggs brings extensive classroom experience and a proven track record in utilizing technology from her previous role as an assistant principal in a neighboring district.

Ms. Scruggs' leadership has notably led two schools to achieve the prestigious Apple Distinguished School designation. Her dynamic approach to educational leadership, in collaboration with her previous administrative team, has significantly enhanced school performance levels. Ms. Scruggs has consistently demonstrated a remarkable ability to unite teachers, students, and the community toward shared goals.

Principal Hallie Ross expressed her enthusiasm about Austyn’s appointment, saying, "Austyn's energy and passion for working with kids are exactly what we need at Houston High. Her mix of instructional expertise and her knowledge of technology distinguishes her as a leader dedicated to educational excellence. I'm excited to see the impact she will make!"

Ms. Scruggs is equally thrilled to join the Houston High team, stating, "I’m eager to contribute to the ongoing success of Houston High and look forward to collaborating with the students, staff, and families to achieve new heights. It’s all about bringing passion to educational leadership and making a tangible difference."

Ms. Scruggs and her husband Corey are deeply involved in the local community. Their children—Brooks, Allye, and Reese—are also active, with Brooks joining the Mustang family as a freshman this year. He is currently playing on the JV summer team for HHS with hopes to play on the team in the fall.  Daughters Allye and Reese are competitive volleyball players. Ms. Scruggs enjoys spending time with her family, whether on the court, at the field, or relaxing by the water at the beach or lake.
