Kindergarten Screening
If you have a child or know a child, who will be five (5) years old after August 15 or before September 30, 2017, please contact the Germantown Municipal School District Department of Academic Advancement to sign up for the Kindergarten Screening. 
ACT Boot Camp
Students are welcomed to attend as many as they can: January 24 & 26; January 30 - February 3rd; February 6th - February 8th  
The City of Germantown partners with schools for MOVERS program to foster leadership in youth
The focus of the MOVERS program is to select 24 eighth grade students (eight from Houston Middle, eight from Germantown Middle and eight from Riverdale) and give them a leadership experience that will help them as they prepare for the high school experience. 
HHS Choirs hosting English composer Will Todd in a residency
The Houston High School Choirs of Germantown, TN will be hosting English composer and conductor, Will Todd, in a brief residency on January 23 and 24, 2017. The residency will include a choral reading session for middle and high school choral directors as well as local church musicians on Monday evening at HHS.  
GMSD central office works to break barriers in Memphis
Over the Christmas break, 14 GMSD central office employees dedicated half of their day to giving back to Memphis. Lead by Elissa Stratton, director of human resources at GMSD, the group split up and went to the St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen and MIFA Meals on Wheels.  
Germantown Education Commission awards teacher of the month
The Germantown Education Commission presented the December 2016 Teacher of the Month award to Dr. Melissa Ducey who is the Ione physics teacher at Houston High School. Students love Dr. Ducey’s class because of the hands-on experiences and student-centered learning environment. 
HMS 6th graders take the co-champion title at the national chess competition
The HMS 6th grade chess team has been awarded National Co-Champion with Dalton School (New York) at the 2016 National Grade Chess Championship. Over 1,500 K-12 chess players from around the country competed at this National Championship event.  
K-8 Family Life Curriculum Review
GMSD is holding a public review of the updated K-8 Family Life Curriculum on January 23rd, from 6:00pm-7:00pm.  Materials will be available for review in the GMSD PD Room. 
HHS HOSA Students Raise Awareness on Fire Safety
Students of the Houston High School HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) Chapter recently visited a local Germantown elementary school and special education classes at Houston High to raise awareness about fire safety.

Save the date, our Spring Musical Shrek, Jr. is showing March 1-4, 2017! We are currently looking for sponsorships at all levels. 
Open Enrollment Begins on January 30th
Open Enrollment opens at 10am on January 30th and closes on February 10th at 4pm. 
Houston High School’s faculty and students come together to support Salvation Army’s Angel Tree
Houston High School’s faculty and students came together to adopt 25 angels for the upcoming holiday season.
