GMSD to swear in three school board members next week
Join us in the City of Germantown Chambers on Monday, December 5th at 6:30 for the official ceremony.  Suzanne Jones, Amy Eoff, and Linda Fisher will all be sworn in. 
GMSD's holiday card contest winners announced
Each year, our art students create holiday card designs for an annual contest. 
Farmington Falcons explore different corners of the world through Skype
This week, Farmington Elementary School sent its students out all across the world—in a virtual way. 
Houston High's CyberPatriots Set the Bar High for Cyber Security
Houston High CyberPatriots had their first round of competition in November. All six teams did an excellent job of securing their operating system images against cyber security threats and vulnerabilities.  
Germantown resident organizes a special outreach in response to the tragedy in Chattanooga
A Teddy Bear Drive is being organized as a special relief effort by Germantown resident Dr. Lee Ann Kight.

11th graders can win $1K in Penny Hardaway Essay Contest
All current 11th graders in the Memphis, Shelby County, Fayette County, Tipton County, Crittenden County and DeSoto County area are invited by Monogram Foods to write an essay on “Penny Hardaway: A Great Memphis Role Model." 
Local student works to increase Aids Awareness
For Juli Anna Stanford, the issue of HIV/Aids hits very close to home. A student at Houston High School in her junior year, this year Stanford aims to do something big to increase awareness amongst her suburban peers.  
39 GMSD Orchestra students selected for All-West
Congratulations to Dr. Long Long Kang and Stephen Short for a strong showing at this year's competitive All-West auditions. 
Houston Middle School receives a new space age water fountain
Last summer, Houston Middle School Assistant Principal Jessica Woody was walking through the airport and saw a water bottle filling station for the first time. “Immediately, my wheels started turning,” she laughed. As soon as she returned to school, her mission was clear, “…HMS needed one of those stations”. 
Hour of Code is coming to a GMSD classroom near you
With an upcoming national event focused on the classroom of tomorrow, GMSD teachers are joining in on the fun to offer some unique experiences for their students. Read more to learn how to become involved.
